Russia (ussr) lost over 15000 in their war in afghanistan and gave them a national holiday: "MUJAHIDEEN VICTORY DAY", celebrated every April 28th. For Afghanis victory over ussr. ha ha ha.   30. THeir "other option" was invade Japan, in which case MANY MORE people in Japan would have died than the bomb killed, with nearly as many also killed on the US side... That was one of the main reasons given for the bomb drops and it is a good one. They also didnt have to worry about further nuclear escalation since nobody else had nukes... Japan had one of the most horrible regimes of modern times in place and had to be stopped, just like hitler. Look it up if you arent educted on the facts.
