  3. I think that's right. Moreover, any socialist state (including the Western social democracies) simply cannot keep up with the pace of the arms race set by the US. They do not and cannot achieve the capital formation needed, which then feeds the MIC, obviously. They can only prosecute defensive wars -- and even win against the US, but only in defense.

  4. I suggest you listen to or read some Steven F. Cohen. You might be very surprised. He was asked several years ago, at an event at the 92nd St. Y, whether Putin would invade Ukraine. Everyone expected him to say "no." He did not say no. A lot of people were at odds with Katrina after she and her late husband refused to join the Russia conspiracy theorists.

  5. No socialist state, not even a social democracy, can keep up with the pace of the arms race set by the US. That's really what capitalism is best at. They took the bait by trying. That alone may have tipped the balance. An untestable hypothesis, obviously.
