I made a point to read Singal's entire article at The Atlantic. I was surprised at how excellent it was. It is absolutely crucial to get the gender dysphoria diagnosis and treatment right. When clinicians work hard to make that happen, it's transformative. No pun intended, the results are remarkable.

Some of us actually read his article, in full. Singal does no such thing. You know you can count on practically everyone not to read. So Trumpian of you.

@benjaminselassie Okay. Please go away. There are times when the Miss Grundy/Nurse Ratchet routine is not desired. The current pandemic and policing crisis is one of them. You really think this person doesn't know that all things considered, what they did did not turn out to be terribly prudent? You really think the school's response was reasonable and proportionate? Whatever happened to detention -- with someone like you as the monitor? A couple of weekends like that and you can be sure a kid's behavior would be perfect from then on.
1
@benjaminselassie Um, where did I say it was NOT a problem? I suggested the punishment did not nearly fit the crime. If you can sound like Nurse Ratchet, I can say you sound like Nurse Ratchet.

@benjaminselassie I have written screenplays. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was a novel before it was a movie. You never read it??
1
@benjaminselassie It was a book first. I read three languages. But I digress.

@benjaminselassie The book was better. Greater intensity.

Correct. Singal wrote an outstanding article. He interviewed some of the best doctors treating trans youth and showed how it is absolutely crucial to get the gender dysphoria diagnosis and treatment right. When clinicians work together and work hard to make that happen, the results are remarkable. The goal is not pills and surgery, the goal is a happy and fulfilled human being. Sometimes that requires surgical intervention and hormone support -- and sometimes not. Sometimes the surgery is like a miracle, the person emerging from it happy for the first time in their lives, and other times there is a need for more therapy. That's what I got from Singal's article. Does everyone have to be the same? I hate to disappoint you, but . . .
1
@nohbuddy1 The article was not transphobic.
1
@nohbuddy1 Does everyone have to be the same? You answer a real question with a bogus one. Of course women shouldn't be banned from women's sports. Trans women are women.

He is opposed to ALL vaccines. I'm not against taking a critical look at vaccines, strictly case-by-case, or acknowledging that their use has had a sorry history in the Third World, but blanket denunciations of vaccination has always been sheer nonsense, and continues to be nonsense. I have asked for more vaccines than the minimum recommended, based on my own research, and to be able travel freely without worry. Vaccination in general is a great thing. Has information about risk ever been suppressed? Has misuse of vaccines in the global South ever been hushed up? Yes and yes. I'd still take a flu shot, pneumonia shot, tenanus booster, or meningitis shot this minute.

@techloidtech2051 I'm not saying there's no truth in your comments. I think there clearly is. I'm saying that you are claiming a blanket certitude that does not exist.
1
@techloidtech2051 There are viral infections that are almost impossible to prevent without vaccination. Everyone who encounters them for the first time will get them. The invasion of the Americas by Europeans proved that. So did polio, a crippling disease that at times was associated with excess hygiene early in life. Shocking but true. The idea that Virtuous Diets or Healthful Outdoor Exercise can prevent all illness is social Darwinian claptrap.
1
@techloidtech2051 I have not endorsed any of the COVID vaccines, or denounced them. I am not qualified to do either. As for making my own personal decision, right now I am reading peer-reviewed journal articles on mRNA published before 2019, for example. My mind is open. And in general, I support vaccination very strongly. In general. And I do not eat GMOs.
1
@techloidtech2051 I think your point about new technology + new virus is a sound point. This is what we always need to take into account, in every type of risk analysis. But it is not determinative. Sometimes the risk of NOT adopting the new technology is greater. I don't know whether it is this time.

I wrote a really derogatory comment about HITLER and it was so bad it was removed. I have never been prouder. (EDIT: No, I didn't swear. How cool is that?)

Always remember that the most obnoxious, irrational person may be a false flag, or someone with a hidden agenda. They may not be articulating a trans-supportive position at all.
1
@nohbuddy1 You're counting on people not to read. Or understand what they read.
1
@nohbuddy1 The only white friend I made in this century is a trans woman.
1
@nohbuddy1 I agree the legislation must be strongly denounced.
1
@nohbuddy1 Yeah. Whatever. You said I should talk to actual trans people. I said I do. But whatever. See how YOU twist people's words? Are you okay?
1
@nohbuddy1 Your style of attack is feeding the fascists who push these bigoted laws. No one will dare get involved to denounce them. You really think those right-wing legislators read anything, much less Singal's very long and nuanced article? Ha. Prove that one, it's a doozy.
