  2. This also shows that no one seriously reads in foreign languages. Remember when every French student read The Little Prince in the original? Check out some pictures of the bookstores in Latin America.

  4. This can't be the explanation. Whole language learning was generally abandoned before the current 18 to 22 year olds were born. And the Harry Potter series was in general use from its beginning in 1991 until well into the 2000s, although the last book came out around 1998. When did kids stop reading that?
