Why doesn't a well-funded independent news source like The Intercept go out and do the investigative journalism needed to find out who these violent fringe groups really are, instead of assuming they are antifa, "allied" with BLM? They could be provocateurs for all we know.

Which, if their work is selective, isn't wonderful, either. But The Intercept shed no light on that at all. It's not doing the reporting. Why isn't it? That is the ONLY way to show that someone or other is unfairly selective in their reporting.

Chris Hedges has been warning about "black block" and "antifa" for years now. I have remained relatively neutral for the simple reason that antifa is too amorphous, and people claiming to be part of antifa have indeed, on occasion, done some good things (i.e., protected people from other violent protestors). But antifa are all the more susceptible to infiltration by provocateurs because they are amorphous. READ AFENI SHAKUR'S BIO.

@vjs4539 There has already been evidence of provocateurs, and Jimmy Dore presented the video himself last year, showing a probable provocateur in action in Minneapolis, and Jimmy thus proved that the question of who the h*ll these people are is well-founded. Chris Hedges has written extensively on the issue. In other countries that have had demonstrations, "black block" showed up and engaged in vandalism. The main groups participating in the demonstrations said they wanted no part in the black block violence, and considered it a threat to their safety. (It is always interesting when something like that happens in another country, too.) You think you know. That's always wonderful. /s

So report on it. Then investigate WHO these people are. Don't say, "Fox has conflated them with Black Lives Matter protesters, therefore we must support them." That is lazy. Self-styled "antifa" could be the false flag in this picture. They could be the provocateurs.

Please read Chris Hedges on antifa. Antifa is so amorpous that it is vulnerable to infiltration. People who call themselves antifa have done good things, and people who call themselves antifa have engaged in mindless property destruction. BLM is NOT allied with them.

DID THE INTERCEPT DEMONSTRATE THIS? That would be very important news. But that is not what The Intercept report said. If it is the case, why didn't they do some investigative journalism to establish it? It would be similar to what Stonor Saunders did, reporting on the history of CIA infiltration of cultural institutions and literary journals. It would be at least that important. More important, I think.

I think you are on to something. The point is that we need real journalists to demonstrate this, Seymour Hersh style. These "antifa" rioters could very well be provocateurs and false flags. The two reporters filming them could very well have similar (or even the same) affiliations; absolutely we should know about it. Did The Intercept aid in establishing that with any evidence whatsoever? Or are they just floating memes, to see which one might stick?

We don't know whether the violent fringe in these video reports are provocateurs. Accepting at face value that they are actually pro-BLM, and against fascism, is naive. Are you familiar with Chicago? Infiltration of the police and even the judiciary by organized crime figures (including drug gangs) has been endemic. Neighborhoods are never reclaimed until a year or so before real estate speculators get interested in them. Why, it's like magic.

If that is true, it is vital to report it. Why didn't The Intercept do that? A weak, evidence-free innuendo is worse than ignoring the whole matter. If these "journalists" targetted by TI are in fact FBI/CIA agents, we need evidence of it. BTW, Chris Hedges has always pointed out that antifa is particularly susceptible to infiltration, and opposes them strongly. Hedges believes antifa endangers real protestors. I am still neutral on the issue. I am not sure that everyone claiming to be "antifa" really belongs to a rational, stalwart opposition to fascist elements. In fact, it's clear they don't.

Um, WHY would you agree with the underlying right-wing premise, and identify "antifa" with Black Lives Matter? There are myriad reasons to question that identification, and to question the assumption that "antifa" and BLM are always allies. "Antifa" is highly amorphous, and vulnerable to infiltration. See Chris Hedges on that point. There is no reason to assume BLM would engage in apologetics for the particular acts of vandalism shown in the video presented in The Intercept article. That is assuming what Laura Ingraham always does, with no evidence, of course. (She routinely lies.) IF you yourself were covering these events, and doing the investigative journalism needed to find out who these groups are, then you could speak authoritatively on it, correct? Too bad TI, with all its resources, did not do that.

I can tell you why I hated him: he was so utterly lazy and narcissistic, and steeped in getting his way by bullying, that he was incapable of remembering at noon what garbage he tweeted the night before. He overtly supported some of the worst groups in this country. He was a meta-liar: it wasn't just a matter of lying; the Clintons surely do that more than he did. Trump believed he was the sole source of truth. If he says it, it's Truth. If he changes his mind in 48 hours, then that is Truth. When he had the Iranian general assassinated, I had the distinct impression he had no idea who the guy was. When he learned of COVID, he sat on the information, and told Bob Woodward about it, fully expecting it not to matter. The sheer avalanche of falsehoods he uttered was impossible to keep a tally of. Hence he got away with it. This was NEW. Everyone can name ten Hillary lies, ten Biden lies, ten Bill Clinton lies. Trump altered the landscape. He made that impossible. As for why liberals hate him, probably something to do with money . . .

WAIT A SECOND. Why would a focus on supposed ANTIFA mayhem discredit the Black Lives Matter movement? These two are not aligned. Real reporting would delve into whether self-styled "antifa" could be provocateurs. I just read The Intercept story. It fails to match the headline. When independent media, like this show, covered property destruction in plain view that police pointedly ignored, it raised the legitimate question of whose side the property destroyer was really on. I remember Dore being one who did that.
