  6.  @reasonerenlightened2456  Dore is making suggestions, he is opposed to mandates. Nowhere does he say parents should be prohibited from having their children vaccinated. He believes the science doesn't warrant vaccine mandates. He isn't ordering anyone around. As you know.

  8. From the Statistica website: the proportion of all COVID deaths that have occurred in children under 17 is 0.0749%. Or, to put it another way, 99.925% of all deaths were in adults 18 and older. Over 94% were in people 50 and over. Go do the math. It's worse than I thought.

  17.  @chimpskij I think his point is that as a general matter, you don't compel minor children to take a vaccine to protect people in their 80s and 90s, unless there is a clear benefit and minimal risk to the kids themselves. At least I hope that's all he meant. Hm.

  19. @bethere5151 I am SO sick of people trying to push more sacrifice on the young for those approaching 90 or 100. At first I though, good, respect elders, don't give in to age discrimination and so forth. Little did I know . . . :/

  20. Intelligent to exclude the unvaccinated, because of an illness that has at most a 2% case fatality rate? The first responders who risked their lives last year should be excluded this year, even if they had COVID and recovered? CGT just organized a demonstration of VACCINATED health care workers in support of their unvaccinated colleagues and against mandates and passports. L'Obs posted a video and all the comments below it praised the CGT for their humanity. Only the US is Dogville.

  24. You know what? Do some reading of real articles, that summarize and link to the best peer-reviewed research. Your fear is harming you. The risk of serious COVID or death is very, very low in the vaccinated, and even lower if you already had it, and were vaccinated. Fear is not good for you. Close to 95% of all COVID deaths occurred in people 50 and older. On the other hand, a vaccinated person can give you COVID. A mild case in a vaccinated person may turn out to be the best way to establish real, long-lasting immunity. I don't know where you got the idea that you can get this many times.

  26.  @ArashArfaee It is always about the particular virus. And a society that practices commercial medicine is one where trust is commensurately low. People who have been injured by rare side effects from vaccination and were told they had "anxiety" and sent home are already filing malpractice law suits. But this happens every year, not just due to COVID or COVID vaccines.

  28. We also have to ask what the vaccinated are doing to stop the spread. I agree with frequent, routine testing as well, and masks indoors. Here is a good rule of thumb -- always pick two of three and implement them: be outdoors, social distance, wear a mask. Or take a COVID test before violating this rule.

  31. In the US, which has far worse statistics than Canada, almost 95% of deaths were in people over 50. Comorbidities are the usual cofactors in these deaths. Who are these young, healthy people dying of COVID? The overall case fatality rate is under 2%.

Dying over 50 is not exactly dying "young," and at any rate, median age of death from COVID is not much different anywhere in the West from average life expectancy. Concerning life expectancy, we hit a record number of drug overdose deaths in 2020, over 93,000. Life expectancy in a lot of places like France and Germany barely budged during this time. Maybe fear-mongering, jeering, and hectoring are not a way to live?

  34.  @peterfrancisharris I'm not fine with anything in the US. I decided in 2019 to emigrate, deadline 2025, but I've moved it up. I'm more and more chagrined at having my intuition turn out to have been THIS good, yet rather proud that it was. Chagrin outweighs pride, obviously, by a lot.

The Boston Marathon bomber and the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas school shooter got admitted to hospitals. The vaccine consent form states that if you decide to decline vaccination, your medical care will be unaffected. If you are vaccinated, then you must have gotten one.
