The justification allegedly made by the border patrol union official tends to support the story reported by Reuters (UK) that at least one guard used reins as a whip. This faux controversy reminds me of "Chauvin is innocent." Because opioids, because COVID. . . . PFFT!!!!

IOW, I saw an array of incredible dysfunction.

When have the CHAZ, CHOP, LGBTQ + BDSM had a president? The January 6 rioters certainly did, and will. Though their opioid addiction and paranoia may be even greater than that of the CHAZers, but don't hold me on that. I would not bet money either way. Oh, I can think of a fun contest: which group has more undercover FBI infiltrators, instigators, and provocateurs? I'm afraid to bet. Should be fun to watch.

Your view is plausible, unfortunately, because no press is entirely trustworthy, and it is becoming less so now, because of the smaller revenue margins and the incentives to exaggerate. Plausible is far from definitive, however. I tend to believe the reporter because the justification later offered isn't a denial at all. Unless The Independent is lying about that, too.
