@PearComputingDevices The state and local governments ordered businesses closed, the official number of unemployed is at least five times the number of available jobs, and you still think the people are at fault? That they chose this catastrophe? A lot of people who were doing fine in January cannot make ends meet as of August 1. If a government takes away your civil right to circulate freely because of a PANDEMIC, you don't think it should compensate you for the loss? Can a person shelter in place if they are evicted? Can they eat properly to stay healthy with no income? You are pretending nothing happened, that there is no global emergency. I see a lot of people cannot accept that we are living in unprecedented times.

@PearComputingDevices You mean you don't know that there are still people waiting for their FIRST unemployment checks to arrive, and some only started getting their checks from March in July? And that in the jobs that do exist, hours have been reduced everywhere? Nothing is open as it was in February and March prior to the shutdown, and my state has officially "reopened." Other states with current hotspots are worse. Bills that I mail are not arriving to their destination on time. New graduates are not being allowed to start the jobs they had in place before last Christmas. And do you have any idea how much health insurance costs under, say, COBRA, if you want your health care to remain stable during a pandemic? It is prohibitive. My remarks are not special pleading. I have savings and no debts and never carry a credit card balance because I never believed in this economy in the first place. But your discourse is aimed at the people who do. Government works just fine for the oligarchs.

Stay strong, pull together and love each other. The politicians also want you at each other's throats. "Divide and distract." Your own loved ones are the only ones who matter. Anyone who tells you differently has an agenda.

Butch Coolidge China did shut down the region where COVID surfaced, and imposed martial law. They shut down hard and early. They even went door to door, to remove anyone with symptoms and quarantine them, and then forced everyone else to stay in. They had drones watching their own population.

In which chamber of Congress do spending bills originate? Who is in control of that chamber? And what is the rhetoric of that party, compared with the reality of what they do? Of course Biden will win, barring some totally unforeseeable event. What do you expect to happen then?

@BigislandEJ We were talking about government mandated closures, which have affected people not just in the US, but globally. I think it was completely unethical to FORCE shutdowns, and FAIL to make all of those harmed by the shutdowns whole. I know full well that the pandemic has made some people richer. If you are doing so well, why are you so angry? The conversation is not about what you've brought up. It is about those deprived of their livelihoods now, through absolutely no action or inaction on their part. If you are doing so well, where does the anger and resentment come from? Who do you think is getting off better? The restaurants on the verge of bankruptcy?
