  2. They must have made sure the evictions would be sufficiently slow not to rattle global financial markets, or provoke a real revolt like the murder of George Floyd did. That is their job.

  6.  @G360LIVE  The initial uprising was entirely spontaneous and heartfelt. Floyd's past was of no consequence, and in any event did not prevent him from reform, relocation, and gainful employment. We do not torture serial killers to death in the middle of the street, much less reformed robbers. To see it happen during a pandemic, when reverence for human life should be greater and everyone should be less callous, caused mass revulsion and a revolt. That a real movement might later be co-opted is nothing new. $$$

  9. OF COURSE we need property tax credits, mortgage moratoriums, and so forth, to prevent smaller landlords from being forced to sell. We need emergency UBI. Of course an eviction moratorium could backfire. But homelessness now is a disaster.

Well, if the BRICS can come up with a new global reserve currency and overthrow the privileged status of the dollar, then you'll see "Venezuela." But that would take undermining US military might as well. An eviction moratorium could hurt small landlords who can replace the tenants they evict, but by itself it doesn't hurt the landlords who would end up with empty apartments. If not enough people can afford to replace the evicted tenants, here come the real estate conglomerates in any event. Where will the endless supply of tenants come from? Homeless people can't dress well enough for a job interview. With enough empty housing, those with landlords will see tax assessments soar. "They can pay."
