  4. Wrong. The global top 10% excludes 70% of Americans in terms of wealth. "Income?" You have to convert that into purchasing parity, because that is what determines lifestyle. E.g., the wealthiest quintile in income takes 2/3 to 3/4 of all airline trips, etc., in most Western countries. Try looking stuff up.

  9.  @petecampbell60  "Income" has to be adjusted to PPP. A simple number is close to meaningless. Accumulated wealth measured in US dollars poses problems outside of the Westernized economies, but it is more straightforward to calculate.

  11. Incorrect, and you know it. This was debunked in another thread. The study pertains to ALL Americans, not "adult" Americans, because it is a study of INCOME, not salary. It is not based on "adults," or "labor force," or any other subgroup of all Americans. Hence roughly 70% of Americans are excluded from the global top 10% in income.

  13. If we are going to discuss the economy, and posts with links to actual data are shadowed, then this is a waste of time. Too many people have NO idea about the world economy. They actually think all Americans are in the global top ten percent.

  15.  @vegahimsa3057  You know perfectly well that in an Anglo-Saxon country, I dare not say how little I made, because I would discredit myself totally. People are judged by that number. I'm not telling you anything you did not already know. My parents were refugees, FYI, and there's more to the story. I have a clue. But putting all that aside, how many Americans do you think make close to $7500 a month, hence $90,000 a year? On the two coasts they do, and in a handful of major cities -- but in those places, real estate eats a third of it. This is an immense amount of money. Only about 10% of salaries are this high or higher, though of course a substantial number of households make more, because that includes more sources of income.

I don't know if my posts containing links are being shadowed, but I found an article from a UK source, BBC I think, that showed that the top 20% in EVERY developed country, not just the top 20% globally, create an enormous amount of pollution and generate greenhouse gases many times greater than they should relative to their share of the population. Obviously it will be worse in developed countries with a Western lifestyle.

  18.  @vegahimsa3057  That's the study I linked and quoted in another thread. I've referred to it several times. I don't know if the posts are still up. (A lot of posts with links are shadowed, for reasons unknown.) The study counts all Americans, not adult Americans, hence 330 million people. It is not a study of salaries but of income (only about 10% of salaries are above $90k, but income is higher, obviously). Hence roughly 70% of Americans, a clear majority, are excluded from the global 10%. I'm sorry. At this point this is a waste of my time. Bad faith on your part. And Jimmy was right. Acknowledge it.
