Off-label compassionate use was an established norm of medical ethics.

They know why it doesn't work for most cases of severe COVID. Racaniello explained that it reduces intestinal replication of the virus but not lung replication, which is what kills. So its usefulness is limited. It doesn't appear to save lives. But off-label compassionate use of medicines shouldn't be prohibited unless it's known to be a risky medicine.

It probably did help some people.

@JoJo-vg8dz I didn't say it had no value. Considering all the people with long COVID that may also manifest as intestinal inflammation, and considering they've even put a few kids on steroids because of it, I'm sure they would have been grateful to have had the chance to try it. Also, it might be more useful in later variants that don't affect lungs as much as the first variant did. What Racaniello said about it on Lex Friman, and his endorsement of ivermectin clinical trials, sounded reasonable to me.

@soakupthesunman It's rare but has happened. Do you believe in vaccine injuries?

@soakupthesunman I haven't taken the vaccine. My concerns about it were never addressed, so I didn't. I'm taking a risk either way. That's the reality. There are credible reports of long-term negative effects from BOTH.
