  5. Too broad and too cavalier, yes, but when a right-wing conspiracy theorist is found liable for defaming parents of kids killed in a mass shooting, you can no longer compare him to Democracy Now! or Jacobin. (It's hard to win a lawsuit against the press.)

Well, according to the Supreme Court of California, it doesn't have to. It has no responsibility at all. But proven defamation is not free speech. The First Amendment doesn't protect it. That is not to say the speaker should be silenced. You don't see the difference?

It's perfectly fine to call for a boycott, no problem. You have a right to advocate boycott. But then you can't impose jail time for a work of art you refuse to see. The First Amendment doesn't work that way. Anyone who made the point I just made was "cancelled" by being called a "pedophile." A magic word against which no one has an argument. My "problem" is I still have a memory. It was not "the left" that did that.
