@MarissaNye It is already legal to use lethal force in defense of life and limb. It has NEVER been legal to use lethal force in defense of property. If a homeless person pitches a tent on your property, call the police.

@robertchiarizia9463 The very few laws that allow for protecting personal property with lethal force have so many conditions and caveats that no lawyer would advise you to do it. The only case I can think of where the person could be sure of being able to invoke the law is where the property is needed for life or health. An example would be a backpack that contains medicines you need to live and cannot easily obtain.

@robertchiarizia9463 But if you are present in your home and a burglar has broken in the door AND breached the threshold, it is presumed that your life or limb is in danger, absent evidence to the contrary. If he turns around and rushes out as soon as he sees you, then you cannot use lethal force. I'm sorry, it is not obscure. It really is not.
