@BartholomewSmutz The greatest discrimination is in favor of various children of alumni and "special development." The latter is supposed to exist for people of exceptional talent (a first-time author in high school, an Olympic athlete, a young actress who plays Annie on Broadway), but in fact, the children of rich donors often get in.

@BartholomewSmutz I do see your point, but I also think admitting someone like a Simone Biles, provided she truly has the courses and grades to do academic work at the college level, is acceptable. Great talents in one realm can bring unique perspectives to many others. But the "talent" turned out to be the "talent" for having rich families. The criteria for medical school are much different from those for being admitted to college, as they should be.

@geraldm4728 I already decided in 2019 to emigrate. My decision looks better every day.

@tylerspunucious7420 Because I didn't want to use a stronger word. Sad will do.

@JustMe-on7gy I won't bother. I'm halfway out the door.

The Harvard DIVINITY School doesn't take proper notice of the death of Dr. West's mother. You could not make this up.

In formal communications, that is not stylistically preferred, but believe it or not, it is not strictly wrong. He is treating "you and your family" as a collective unit. The proof is that native speakers no longer notice it, except possibly to sense that it's colloquial, not formal. British English never does that, by the way. That is very American.

@LKaramazov Perfectly acceptable view. The people who rail about "split infinitives" are annoying.
