@dms555 It is relevant concerning constitutional rights. If a private religious college prohibits abortion rights advocacy, it can fire any professor who supports abortion rights. That's part of free association, also constitutionally protected. A state that outlaws abortion cannot fire a professor who supports abortion rights from a state college.

Did you read the opinion that dismissed Miller's defamation suit? I suggest you do that before judging. Basically, the court left it up to his bosses at NYU to decide how to handle this. That is what a court usually does in an employment dispute. Just to let you know.

@Berkhoi How do you know he's a victim? Did you read the court documents?

@gdm1979 I did. It wasn't easy. I'll try to see whether I can give you some key words; links will be shadowed by YT to protect the vulnerable. /s

@gdm1979 Miller v. Appadurai, 2022 NY Slip Op 30368 - NY: Supreme Court 2022 gives the main reasoning, but the court that affirmed was very curt and obviously looking for any reason to get rid of the case --- that's the opinion Miller talks about in the video. What jumped out at me was how bad all the lawyers were and how poorly the letter denouncing him was written --- the one he sued them on for defamation, that a whole bunch of professors signed. The writing is abysmal. (This is NYU??) The link to the slip opinion was from an article in Reason magazine. These are unpublished opinions and don't set new precedent, I don't think; I'm not sure. If you read very carefully, you'll realize that the lawyers on both sides made big mistakes. Also look at his substack and see how bizarre his writing is. Then look up the tuition at NYU.

It's a private university.

@yoholmes273 To people with the authority to hire you at $175k to start.

@yoholmes273 That's what people go to college for, isn't it?

@yoholmes273 Sadly, yes. I think I agree with the spirit of your comment. :/

@Berkhoi If you believe your employer is your oppressor, find a new job.

Anyone who comments and takes sides without reading the case has just been subject to propaganda, exactly as Mark Crispin Miller has defined it and explained it. You are taking sides without investigating. Why? I actually believe Miller that he would appreciate this post. That part is sincere, I think.

That is what a court usually does in an employment dispute. That's what it would do to you, too, under the same circumstances. Just to let you know. The accusations were made in an internal letter that was privileged because it was an employment matter.
