  2.  @iyziejane  Well, if treatment were carefully tailored to the individual child, we wouldn't have this issue. Suppose a little girl is experiencing precocious puberty, but not so young that puberty blockers are generally indicated, and suppose she also has intense gender dysphoria. Let's suppose she's not quite 9 years old. Possibly, for her, a year of puberty blockers PLUS intensive psychotherapy would be beneficial, to figure out what's going on and to give her a break from these physical changes in the meantime. I could see that. Too bad that's not what's happening. Most people with dysphoria grow out of it, and between 60 and 70% of those who do grow out of it grow into being LGB or simply non-binary. What's the big deal? They don't need surgery or hormones. They may become excellent parents someday, or they may choose not to. No one can predict that.

  3. @iyziejane  We are talking about minor children. A very powerful, dangerous drug that is almost never necessary was being given to kids.

  4. @iyziejane  Okay, listen: it is almost NEVER the right decision. The fact that in some very, VERY rare cases it is, and that that child won't be able to have it, is tragic. But we can all see why. It is obvious. I'm sorry. These are the facts. This is where we are.

  5. ​​ The future reproductive choices of every child must be protected. Less drastic treatments exist for dysphoria. The more irreversible a treatment, the longer you need to wait to perform it. This is like giving a treatment for Stage 4 cancer to someone with an emotional problem.

According to Reuters, over 17,500 American kids got puberty blockers from 2017 through 2021, AND the numbers were surging every year -- roughly a third of those 17+ thousand got them in 2021 alone. Who ever heard of this, in these numbers, just 15 years ago, nevermind before the past few years? Where is the basic, scientific curiosity about this? Some people blame "the leftists," or "the schools," or "pharma," or " social contagion." Anything, just to grasp some "narrative" or other as quickly as possible. It seems to me that this is some sort of a mental illness, it is extremely serious, and we need real answers, not another culture war. (Culture wars are money grabs, mostly.)
