  4. Do you think Medicare, as it exists, is "government" healthcare? Medicare recipients can choose their own doctors. Private insurance designates "preferred providers." Or, worse yet, "networks."

  5.  @PearComputingDevices  Well, America has proved again and again that it can't do what everyone else can do. My parents, my friends' parents are/were all happy with Medicare, and have no complaints about their supplemental insurance payments. This has nothing to do with "ideals," misplaced or otherwise.

  6.  @PearComputingDevices  This is all complete nonsense, without paragraphs. EVERY developed country with universal health has better outcomes than the US, using objective measures. There are no exceptions. The deadweight is on our economy, supporting the most massive health care bureaucracy in the world. Moreover, people are tied to employers they don't like and jobs where they cannot flourish, solely for fear of losing health insurance. They cannot start their own businesses for the same reason. Our system is make-work for bureaucrats, and shortchanges doctors and nurses.

Do you have any idea how much of our basic research takes place in the nonprofit sector -- the major universities and their associated teaching hospitals -- and is financed through the NIH? The stereotype of British people with bad teeth is laughable and outdated. (As for me, it just so happens that I had an orthodontist ruin my teeth here, and my dentist hid it. She only admitted it after I got a second opinion on all the root canals she tried to foist on me, which a former professor of dentistry told me I did not need. I could have and should have sued them all.) Personally, this is all moot for me. "I have mine." Maybe you can explain why COVID has affected the US the worst, as usual. As has obesity, teen pregnancy, opioid and other substance addiction, and on and on. With all of these great "market incentives" to take better care of oneself, you'd think "rational actors" would!

  8.  @PearComputingDevices  Anyway, we debunked your first post. Fauci had power in the present system. There is exactly zero reason to think that under M4A, we would have government bureaucrats replacing layers and layers of insurance company bureaucrats to control health care. People only find out how good their coverage is when they get sick. Naturally. The insurer's incentive is for people to be well or die quickly. That's what brings in the highest profits. Therefore, that's what's "best."

  9.  @PearComputingDevices  I speak three languages fluently, watch news in all of them, read regularly in two, and have some knowledge of two others, lived in Europe for over five years, my late father and my mother's only brother were both WWII British Army veterans, always had friends and family in Canada and Australia (uncle wisely opted for the latter), etc., etc., etc., etc. Where do you get YOUR notions?
