Before the WHO was Gates-dominated (as for currently, I don't know), it said that each GMO in food must be evaluated for safety case-by-case; if you understand the technology, you know why, and it does not take much work to find out. You cannot generalize and claim they are all fine. The PP puts the burden where it belongs -- you do not presume safety and try to disprove it. You presume absence of safety and try to disprove that, just as in medicines. But apart from safety, there may be risks of creating monocultures in certain foodstuffs, and thus a need for more technology to "fix" that as a result. There is also the fact that its major innovation, golden rice, has turned up in some studies to be of no appreciable benefit at all. Turns out kids need carrots or sweet potatoes or red cabbage or spinach.
