I was always surprised that Jordan Turpin was believed. She had pictures on an old smart phone. And a good cop was sent to investigate.

@troy3456789 Her murder exoneration is a record of past violence in the home, even assuming innocence. No one spied on her because of it, no one denied her her rights because of it, her daughter reported her. That's why it's not a police state.

@annazaman9657 It is an example of what can happen that we were all "sure" couldn't possibly happen.

@troy3456789 A mother with a record of being tried for murder, and repeated divorces due to infidelity? No concern there . . .

@troy3456789 In a case of alleged domestic abuse, certainly. The standard of guilt beyond reasonable doubt for a criminal conviction is very high, and should be. The evidentiary standard for acting to protect vulnerable children is more lenient, as it should be. She may have been factually innocent of murder, but even domestic self-defense points to a risk of a violent home. No one butt in here. A child begged for help. Of course you take everything into account, sometimes even including the presence of (perfectly legal) guns in the home, much less a home where they were once used against a family member. Let me ask you: a young child says he's scared of daddy because daddy carries a gun. Daddy has every right to. So, the child's expression of fear deserves no added scrutiny? You don't want to be absolutely sure daddy never threatened the child with it, or pointed the gun at any family member, questions you probably won't ask when daddy doesn't carry a gun?

@troy3456789 I don't know what her divorce decrees said, or whether they were made public only after she killed two of her children. I'm assuming that either a journalist or Dr. Grande verified this, and that CPS could have as well. I consider multiple divorces, especially for cause rather than no-fault, also a cause for added concern. Obviously they could be innocent. Obviously a parent could be more careful with their kids, not less, due to experiencing bad marriages, while their children of course want "more freedom." This is probably more likely. But not to take a close look, not to be sure to interview children carefully and away from mother, is stunning -- not that cutting corners is ever justified.
