@susanzoeckler4926 I don't know if you can, but I don't think so. I would never mention the book without fair warning. Greene is not exactly my kind of guy, but he writes very well and I honestly think he can arm people against falling for Mr. Wrong. When you see the manoeuvres, the bubble will burst. Or, on how to avoid criminals, all the way from petty brutes to serial killers: Gavin DeBecker, The Gift of Fear. I think what bothers me most is when genuinely naive victims blame themselves. Maybe no one told them. Maybe no one sat them down and calmly explained. When others go on the attack instead of explaining, the starry-eyed innocent young woman will . . . defend the guy. She will silence the little voice telling her, "there's some truth to this criticism of him" -- out of misplaced loyalty. (File under, bad things do happen to good people.)

@susanzoeckler4926 Read Robert Greene to see what to avoid! Seriously, it might make you mad, or sad, but it is pretty good. Lets you see through the game.

@susanzoeckler4926 When I first read his book on seduction, I placed it into recycling rather than selling it. That's how much the descriptions of the strategies upset me. But after reading a few other things he wrote, watching his interviews with credible journalists, and looking at it again, I believe him that his main purpose is to arm naive, good-hearted people with the tools to resist the evil charmers. It certainly can blow their cover! Immunization, LOL.

@susanzoeckler4926 This is wonderful. Don't lose the sense of magic. Being open to embrace life BUT quick to see danger when it is present and remove yourself from it is the best way. DeBecker says that the most important thing is NEVER to talk yourself out of intuition. It's not something mystical or "New Age," it is strictly ultra-rapid non-verbal pattern recognition, and everybody has it. I once read that the best preparation for a bad experience is a good one! I totally agree! I'm very happy for anyone who had an idyllic childhood, and wish everyone could have. Bravo! (You might not want to know how dark other people are. Small doses.) Congratulations to your son, hope you are both proud!

@susanzoeckler4926 Uh oh, feel obliged to mention: Greene is for mature audiences only! DeBecker, maybe in junior and senior year high school, with guidance. Not as light reading!!

@susanzoeckler4926 You are so welcome, it is you who sound awesome. You made some sacrifices to help those less fortunate, even if you're too modest to say so.

Yes, I think that's it, but it will not impress any normal, mature woman past her early 20s. You often see that attraction in high school, you see it far less in college, and even less in full-fledged adults.

Are you sure of what it is you are doing? It sounds to me like you might need to find a really intuitive and experienced counselor to figure this out. From what you say, it isn't obvious what you're doing, or that you are causing this. When you see the terrible, criminal side, do you find it hard to walk away, or do you run in the other direction? If you extricate yourself quickly and deftly (they move on, don't stalk you), don't be sure you are doing something that's hard to figure out and stop. You probably can. In fact, I'm sure you can.
