@JiveDadson I agree! It's the type of girl that was being discussed. But it is always good to clarify. Anyway, Shakespeare is, in part, formulaic, in order to orient the audience quickly, especially in his comedies (think of Twelfth Night). It's not necessarily a flaw.

@indoororchidsandtropicals358 I'm like that. I think of strong men as having an instant reaction in response to weaker creatures, and will want to protect them from mortal danger. That's why "bad boys," money grubbers, submissive males, and brutal males turn me off. A guy who instantly protect women, children, very old people, disabled people, and small, defenseless animals are my type. I'd almost call them the "ideal soldier." Deeply committed anti-war combat veterans are an example.

Great post! I don't understand how anyone over the age of 16 can be excited by a psychopath, or anyone over 21 or 22 can persist in pursuing "bad boys" and abusive males -- unless they themselves have some emotional problems that genuinely need to be worked through. The way you spotted the girl equivalent is brilliant. I love Kate Winslet, and didn't find her character in Eternal Sunshine attractive in the least. That sort of thing stopped being enticing to me by the time I got out of high school.

@JiveDadson It wasn't about stable relationships, it was about seduction and obsession.

@JiveDadson No one said that, concerning Shakespeare. Either.

@UCH9QIK8Oql9PklUv3UBUJhw Your comments are inapposite to great points being made, especially in the first post. The original post never suggested the relationship was likely to be healthy. Why the "strong suggestion" to watch the film again, or even two more times, when no one you're responding to got it wrong the first time? Okay, done here. Most interactions in English are exactly this unsatisfying. Oh well, no biggie. No expectation = no disappointment.
