I was struck by Robert's observations about envy, and how no one will admit to it. Well, what I've noticed about myself is that my lack of envy is not normal, and not a good thing. Envy can be a powerful motivator. It isn't necessarily negative. Envy that causes a person to undermine someone else is poisonous, but envy that motivates people to become more excellent and outshine others is not a bad thing. Or at least I don't see why it should be.

Very happy for you and your family.

A hypercompetitive society, where kindness is equated with weakness, and anyone weak is ridiculed or shunned, is an unhappy one.

In the US, the idea is to marry money.

ali akbar Wrong thread?

Here's a thought: get an elegant planner, and set aside a time to write things in it, preferably daily but no stress, when you want to. Do that for a few weeks. Then go tech-free for 36 hours. (I'm thinking to attach that to my 36-hour fast.)

You need a lot of money to make sure no one will come along and ruin your life on a whim. That's all money is for. Not to bring you happiness, but to prevent disaster. It works very well for that. The Stockton experiment, giving a group of people $500 a month, no strings, showed massive improvements in mental health. During the pandemic, the differences between rich and poor became stark. It is evident who is suffering.

@codyquinn8646 When people have one or two children and 40 to 50 years in the workforce, it doesn't seem excessive to me.

Twenty years? Nearly forty. People stopped eating dinner together in the 80s.

@projectbirdfeederman5491 I agree with you. When I tell someone and it is evident they do not care, or worse yet, they clearly want to shun me, it reinforces the trauma. Sartre said, "Hell is other people." I would say, "Trauma is other people." For example, do people realize that most cancer sufferers will lose "friends" and even family? The big show of Support for some prominent person or celebrity exists as a cover, and only serves to twist the knife.

I hate Walker. My doctor had no respect for him, either.

8:08 This is key! Under one minute.

P. S. Obviously, the idea is to have enough written in your planner that you DO NOT NEED your phone/tablet/laptop. If I don't write things down, I will need my tech.

Wishing you great luck. A wave will come, waves always come. "Catch the wave."

No, the mind is not a computer. See, e.g., Roger Penrose.

If you are a passenger in a car on a beautiful, sunny afternoon, with a perfectly sober, competent, responsible driver, and a drunk driver hits you, passenger side -- who is responsible? Laughable, bro. You like to blame the obvious victim.

I think you're right. Add in the good food, shared convivially, and I think all of those things are more important than adding weightlifting to the to-do list. "Daddy, are we having fun yet??"

Great point.

@TheGlobuleReturns So he gained weight every decade?

@VeronicaSparks-oq5qo Love how you said that. Good luck!!

The number of ads on this video is a disgrace. This is too important of a discussion to have this many irrelevant and risible interruptions.

@jonc7330 I don't like fearmongering in general, no matter how well I've slept. Fearmongering concerning health is probably the worst.

Yes. It came at a truly bad time for me, truly bad, and caused trauma. All I wanted was to find out more about dreaming, and expected a pleasant read. I hate him.

@BL4CK0UT17 Once a month hits the spot for me. Seems to last 90 minutes on the dot. 😊

Probably the most profoundly cultured man who practices medicine since Freud.
