  1. You need a declaration of homicide to pursue a suspect. If he stole her van, they could have gone after him for that immediately. (Was the van in her name alone?) If a person steals another person's car and leaves them in a dangerous area, that is a serious crime.

  2.  @YoureDoingItPeter  No, the lawyer can either do his job properly, or refuse to take the case. The lawyer has done nothing wrong. Legally, Laundrie (or whatever his name is) is presumed innocent.

  4.  @MikeBDaniels-bv8io  No such official declaration has been made. Was the van registered in her name only? The police could have held him on stealing her van and leaving her in a dangerous area. Police often act as though they know more than they actually know. This can't be news to anyone.
