Rittenhouse was allowed to leave the scene and go back to Illinois. We do need to know why, ESPECIALLY because earlier, police interacted in a friendly way with heavily armed males who appeared to be acting as vigilantes. Rittenhouse was also charged as an adult. It has been stated that bringing adult charges against a 17-year-old in a homicide case is "automatic" in Wisconsin. I'm opposed to such laws.

poofendorf You have absolutely no idea. FIRST, not all the charges admit of self-defense; it is not a defense to all of the charges pending against Rittenhouse. SECOND, a person cannot cause a dangerous situation and then claim he acted in self-defense. This is why a thorough investigation will be necessary, to see who did what, when, why, and with what mens rea.

@-Thunder It wasn't his business to defend. He was not legally present in Wisconsin because he had no right to be armed or to cross state lines to engage in any endeavor while armed. You do know private security guards are licensed, insured, and bonded, and of AGE?

Well, every other "culture" in the developed world has universal health care and free or very low tuition university, and decent public housing for those priced out of the market by speculators. Do all of these people lack "values?" Funny, their kids are far less likely to get pregnant, use drugs, or drop out of school (like Rittenhouse did), unmarried couples and divorced couples raise children together, no one runs around heavily armed, and police don't shoot people at the drop of a hat. So . . . what was that about "values?" Where is Rittenhouse's high school diploma? Where is his FATHER?

I'll tell you something else. I have not met a polite white person in years and years. No black person EVER speaks to me with the sheer prepotence and rudeness whites consider their birthright. I recently had a medical test that resulted in many anguished weeks waiting for another appointment during COVID. The first technician, white, made an error. The second one, black, fixed it. I see this all the time. Maybe you're not noticing? Start looking around.

@Octavus5 Whites emphasize education?? Whites have regard for the nuclear family? WHO is this? Do you think there aren't a lot of whites like Kyle and his parents? Do you think there aren't "sister wives" all over the West? Or is that just "the media" making it up? Talk to someone who lives outside the biggest cities in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah. Do you think the "opioid" crisis isn't primarily affecting whites? Methamphetamine before it. This "agency" discourse is a big pile of excuses. NO other country is as dangerous, everywhere else people can count on medical care when they need it and affording college without massive debt. Also, in most places with comparable cultures, police are not infiltrated by gangs of every stripe, from drug lords to white supremacists. Parents don't have to live in fear about what sort of peer pressure their child might face, either. All my life, I've seen black people work hard and take home less money. I can cite real examples.

This is completely insane. Rittenhouse is a MINOR. He cannot enter into most contracts, he dropped out of high school, he has never held down a single full-time job. He had NO business whatsoever being in Kenosha, and no business carrying any firearm, anywhere. Look, I don't even support charging and trying him as an adult. He is not fully abled. You truly do not see that? What is WRONG with you?? How can you possibly support a 17-year-old carrying a big 'ole GUN, when we live in the country where Columbine, Sandy Hook, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, and Virginia Tech took place? Moreover, have you seen the charging document? "Self-defense" does not apply as a defense to all of the charges he is facing, and whether it applies to any of them will be determined after a thorough investigation. How conceited can you be to imagine that you know what legal defenses apply, based on watching a few unauthenticated videos? I am quite sincere when I say he should not be tried as an adult. He needs rehabilitation, not decades in jail. Some of the adults egging him on are probably beyond redemption.

I speak three languages, and I only hear things this ignorant in English, and exclusively from people who think they're white. @robmorgan1214 You're the one who stated his father was dead, with no basis. Now you "know" he dropped out due to bullying over his "politics." So, there is only one high school he could go to, and that one violated his rights, and he had no recourse. That's plausuble, sure. All your mistakes go in one direction. Why is that? Do you even know how video is entered into evidence, in a real court? With witness testimony, establishing authenticity and chain of custody. This is not an easy case. They have not even BEGUN to investigate and interrogate everyone who has material evidence. They may drop or downgrade some charges once they do, or perhaps not. Or maybe they should just ask you instead? Ask the right-thinking people.

@robmorgan1214 I didn't "hear" they were divorced, I read it in three places, including a Milwaukee paper that asked a neighbor for comment, and she suggested the three kids in Kyle's family had tough lives.
