@christopheredwards7846 What effective treatments have been offered? It appears that some, including ventilators, caused greater harm. It also appears that some died of a bacterial pneumonia that they became susceptible to, because of their weakened state.

Very simple: drugs that have a long history of safe use are available for off-label use, and it is common practice to use them, based on clinical experience and judgment. There was in-vitro evidence of efficacy, and, apparently, in the parts of the world where it was used, the epidemiological data looks promising. You may not find that to be a strong case, but a doctor can decide that the evidence is sufficient to prescribe it.

The fact that a nanoparticle has 1/100 to 1/1000 the diameter of a red blood cell, and that mRNA induces the machinery of your own cells to produce the antigen which provokes an immune response might also have something to do with it. Generally speaking, new is not better. It may be, it may not.
