@alicewynne8242 I think it's worse than that -- they were petrified and manipulated into compliance.

@alicewynne8242 Where did I say I "trusted" them? That's right, nowhere. I never did "trust" them. I once specialized in expert witness testimony in the federal system (US), and I never interjected "trust" into the evaluation -- at least not in the sense of blind faith, concerning data or anything else. Peer review does not come close to cross-examination on a particular data set, so it should be treated with more skepticism. Dr. Campbell frequently links to actual studies, and I always look at them. So, "there's no point and nothing will wake them up?" How do you know this and why should I believe you? That's a phrase designed to insulate your views from criticism. Either we are True Believers or we aren't, and "nothing will wake (us) up."

@alicewynne8242 "Scientific peer review" is not a matter of trust, but of method; peer review is one indication that the conclusions drawn can be relied upon. It is not "proof" that the conclusions are correct, obviously, but it is evidence for those conclusions. It does not demand assent. I've found out a lot about the pandemic and other health matters by reading the scientific peer-reviewed literature. If you know of a better method, please share.
