Now, you could say he has connections, and so forth, so he is hardly vulnerable, but he practices law not only in the US, where the current government is on his side, but also in the UK, where lying about stuff the government ardently supports is not protected speech and can lead to serious trouble. In short, it's not very likely that he would risk it. But you didn't consider that, huh?

These are cases where either there is extreme abuse, such as child abandonment, OR where parents divorce and are at odds about what to do about their child. It's almost always the latter. It's almost always a parent who demands this. I agree that in such cases, either parent should have veto power over puberty blockers, and other powerful drugs for that matter. It is true that the Minnesota law will support the parent "seeking treatment." That's no surprise. The laws usually have. I agree this is different.

In most countries, higher education barely costs anything. It's considered just as necessary as K through 12 (and in many places, it starts with excellent preschool). Parents owe their children an education, and they need to do their best to provide it if they can. Having a rift like that with your child is devastating regardless of what you spent on them or didn't. No matter what she encountered at college, short of powerful drugs, it did not deprive her of free will.

That's what it was like when I was a kid. Is what college costs today fair? Why isn't it a right for school to be something you can work your way through? Why have these kids' lives been ruined by both parties? The Republicans demanded the cuts that forced in-state, public university tuition to skyrocket, and the Democrats pushed bizarre ideologies and ugly culture wars just as hard as Republicans did, if not harder. The minimum wage in my state is $14 per hour. $14 × 37.5 hours per week × 14 weeks should equal one year at the state colleges. That comes to about $7300 gross. That should cap in-state public college tuition. Why doesn't it? That's over $3500 per semester, hardly chicken feed.
