My regret has to do with investing badly.

@bif53 You have absolutely nothing to say to someone who has been raped. Your role is to listen to them. Any suggestion about what they need to do, or what is best for them to do, or what will happen if they don't follow this or that formula, is disguised hostility -- inverted resentment masquerading as wisdom. Shameful, really. Be quiet and listen.

@abrahamalvarez7099 Dyer is presenting well-known lessons in salesmanship disguised as profound wisdom. Read a real book on trauma, if you care to learn. If not, be humble. The one value to this discourse is to learn what to say to mere acquaintances to Sound Smart and keep them off your back. Telling a traumatized person what attitude they need to have, or should "choose" to have, toward what happened to them (them, not you) is abusive. (How do you even know your choices are real choices for them, at this moment?) What you believe "worked for you" may not work for anyone else because they are not you. This is why one-on-one therapy exists, and isn't a simple proposition. It is never "one size fits all."

I guess you have to try them out first, to see whether they "weaken" you. In general, thoughts don't weaken anyone. Emotions may, by leading you astray and exhausting you. Believing that thoughts can hurt you is MUCH more likely to do real harm -- which of course is a thought as well, a thought about thoughts.

@Kellen Pocock I didn't mean to say anything different from what you just said! My point was that when a person starts to get very good at what they do, that is often the moment when the real trouble starts. It is not usually the moment when the skies clear and doors open. In other words, it's a much harder road than people let on, and a much greater success when they do triumph. I don't mean that they shouldn't try. I mean, if you really want it, then be prepared not to give up when the going gets hard on a whole new level. Because once you do get good, the going usually gets harder. That is also why I never criticize those who simply cannot keep pushing. Sometimes it is literally impossible, and not because they "failed."

@Kellen Pocock Do you actually not know how much talented people are spotted, and shot down? You have read Robert Greene's story of his first experience in Hollywood, correct? Do people think someone from the ghetto just has to be brilliant, and doors open? Do they think Weinstein was a one-off? Lord, what do people think the world is like? If they are that naive, they need more preparation, because it is a long and heavy haul.

@RichPortQueen If someone does me wrong I wish love and kindness to their next VICTIM, or better yet, I wish that there be no next victim. But in America we tend to glorify bullies and look down on victims so, okay, wish your abuser love and kindness. Whatever.

If someone else is doing it, you should try it. You don't know until you try. A bunch of times, a bunch of ways.

@MrCoconutcat Who is "they?" You include yourself?

Agree!! I see you beat me to it.
1
@JaIch9999 Of course. Because our own comfort is paramount. /s

@JaIch9999 So . . . For example, if a person bought stock in a firearms manufacturer during a pandemic and the stock goes up, the universe offered them that abundance. You're right. It is so ridicuous.

I WISH this had not been censored. His language is appropriate to the message, and is sincere, not for shock. He is a great communicator. Put up a warning for kiddies, no problem. I appreciate that.

@EvanCarmichael Are you kidding? I can never retire. People have been destroyed, yo. Good thing I love to work.
