@Ghjgdsfh764 Concerning your comparison of the two economies: you don't mention that purchasing power is what matters. For example, is $15 per hour sufficient to pay the rent on a studio apartment and eat wholesome food (even assuming all meals are taken at home, not in restaurants)? No?

@askaneconomist8265 Purchasing power can account for ANY difference. In 1968, a couple both working full time, minimum wage, could afford an apartment in Manhattan, never mind Queens. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, . . . theirs for the choosing. A minimum wage summer job covered a year of in-state tuition, fees, books, and supplies in every state.

The fact remains that if a country as bad as Russia can accomplish this, it should be a breeze for New York and Chicago. Moreover, everyone is skirting the key point: American cities WERE showcases for the world. What happened? Making this about Tucker (or Russia, for that matter) is a diversion that everyone should be able to recognize by now. He's hardly important. The fact that something fundamental changed is important.
