  4. How did we ever get private prisons, with for-profit workshops? Why isn't that considered a violation of the Thirteenth Amendment outlawing slavery? Why do private prisons fall under the Thirteenth Amendment loophole? The language in the Amendment was never intended to allow private exploitation of prison labor. Bad enough that there is any loophole, but you can drive a fleet of trucks through this one.
