It was for 50 years. Guns aren't in the Constitution by that logic. It says "arms." Guns did not exist then.

Get a lawyer on to analyze this. It sounds unconstitutional.

Guns aren't mentioned in the Constitution. They did not exist in the late 1700s.

@AshGreen359 So, rocket launchers are Second Amendment protected? I didn't assume you weren't pro-choice. My point is the US Constitution is not a Napoleonic Code.

@AshGreen359 So, rocket launchers protected, birth control and marriage rights unprotected?

@petercollingwood522 I suggest you research that.

@petercollingwood522 Modern guns that do not require reloading did not exist at all in 1776, and were not mass produced until a couple of decades before the Civil War. The Colt is a modern gun. The weapons used on the frontier around that time were modern guns. What was used in duels in the 18th century were not.

@petercollingwood522 What "arms" meant then and what guns are now are two different animals.

@petercollingwood522 I never said "modern arms." I said "arms." That is the word the Constitution uses, and it does not refer to something that did not exist when it was drafted. I think originalism is so incoherent it verges on being a scam. Like every other political position, it means whatever its proponents want it to mean. They start with their own desires and work backward, then hide their tracks.
