  4.  @joshbobst1629  In 2020, over 45,000 deaths from firearms, more than half being suicides, and over 40,000 deaths from motor vehicle crashes. The injury figures in each category are substantial; modern ER medicine saves a lot of people. There must be well over 100,000 shootings per year. There are hundreds of thousands of people alive today who were present in a school while a shooting was taking place there, though not necessarily where they could witness it. Well, they probably heard it . . . :/

  5.  @reddirtwalker8041  Well, the drinking age is 21. Lots of major urban police departments and fire departments will not take anyone under 21, and scrutinize people under 25 more closely. (This gives them the opportunity to become 30-year veterans pretty easily, if they want to, so there is no cause to complain.) There is nothing magic about 18.

  6.  @reddirtwalker8041  The military is the exact opposite of a lone wolf activity. They give up a lot of basic rights to serve and to get that training. They are watched nearly all the time.
