Exactly. One in ten women with long COVID after giving birth is not a high number at all. "Post-viral syndrome" is well known, particularly in women. It's common for women (not "pregnant people") to have a less severe case of any major viral illness, but then a longer and slower recovery.

Proportionately more men died at every age up until about 80, but more women had lingering signs and symptoms, including objective things like higher pulse rates and fever. I guess we're back to normal now, since women are disbelieved --- with the added bonus of pregnant women being referred to as "pregnant people."

@AR-sz5lm Oh, I know it doesn't have to be after giving birth. It is known that women at every age except the very old were significantly less likely to be hospitalized or die of COVID, but to have a slower recovery. This was true in every part of the world, and it's not unusual for other viral illnesses to present these differences in men and women. Women are generally disbelieved. This is one more indication that we are back to normal. :(

@ellisdeefoley OP was not minimizing it. Lots of viral illnesses have a post-viral syndrome, and it comes as no surprise to me that this one is worse.

@neilcooper9508 And people who got the v-xx and have long COVID are screaming up and down that it's not long COVID, it's lingering COVID. (Because the v-xx prevents long COVID, see?) 😂 It's one long bee s fest.

If you think about it for a minute, it's not surprising. More men died of COVID than women at every age under about 80 or so. More women had lingering symptoms.

Telling someone who is ill that they are just imagining it is the quickest way to make them sicker. Guaranteed. On the other hand, when I felt unusually tired after a severe cold in the fall of 2019, my doctor gave me a thorough check up, then urged me not to baby myself and to take long walks. I started that very day. He predicted the post-viral syndrome would be gone in about two weeks. That is exactly what happened. That's how supportive care and encouragement work. Wowie zowie.

@utah_koidragon7117 I have no idea what you mean by that. What I stated was accurate. If someone, somewhere is trying to milk this (just as big pharma has), how does that affect what I said? And who is suggesting any particular therapy for long COVID that has any resemblance whatsoever to trans? It's exactly the opposite: better nutrition, better sleep, more fresh air and exercise, fasting protocols, certain vitamins --- those are the interventions that doctors are suggesting. I had unusual fatigue after an unusually severe cold in 2019. I got a complete checkup, and a recommendation not to baby myself and to take long walks, which I started doing that very evening. My doctor predicted I'd be fine in 2 to 3 weeks. That's exactly what happened. I've had post-viral syndromes that lasted much longer. I've known people who had had viral meningitis, viral pneumonia, mononucleosis, etc., who took nearly a year to get back to feeling 100% like they did before getting sick.

Post-viral syndromes usually do. Less severe disease but longer period of recovery IS more common in women than men, especially fertile women. If you ever studied evolution, you can think about why that would be adaptive.

@WhatEver-gu9pz Don't be so sure that people without antibodies didn't have COVID. The antibody test I had in July 2020 for apparent COVID in March was so poor that proven cases came up antibody-negative at 90 days post infection for most people. Better tests have been in use since then, but I don't trust any of these tests to the exclusion of clinical impressions by an experienced doctor treating their own patient. There is no comparison. Telling people not to isolate for 5 days, not to test, etc., is not a medical decision, either. It is a political one. Maybe staying home when you're sick can prevent a prolonged recovery? From anything?
