@entium1 So you made money without working for it. I guess that's better than not making money, but that's about all that can be said for it. I'd like to make money how Marguerite Duras or Arundhati Roy did, for example. Or how the great civil rights lawyers did. That would be ecstatic. Some of us think big.

News flash: fewer and fewer people are interested in this game. It's a bore, even if you win. The point of winning is to push away from the table forever. @entium1 Why is it that people who advocate what you do alway make every discussion about the basest of motives? "Wasamadda, you can't make money on the ponies?" Sure, that's it. You know how greedy, envious, and supercilious you are, so of course everyone else must be worse. Logical. My goal is to never have anything to do with stocks, or mutual funds in retirement accounts and all that rot. If I won a lotto, I'd put it in a few currencies and never waste my time thinking about it again. Most people lose money in the stock market. I was not raised to prosper from anyone else's loss.

@entium1 After the savings and loan crisis, the Reagan administration (Republican) PROSECUTED at least some of the wrongdoing. After the 2008-2009 debacle, the Obama administration (Democrat) FAILED to prosecute a soul. Not ONE person. No clawback of bonuses, either. You mean you forgot?? (Or, you think it is partisan to give credit to a Republican administration for doing something, however small, about enforcing laws pertaining to finance? Huh. Surprised.) In any event, the POINT is, the person who started this thread with the first comment was exactly right, and you are a trash talking __ who has been neutralized. @speckledmike I didn't defend the movie -- or condemn it. I pointed out that you are tossing off an accusation of very serious criminality when chances are excellent you have NO idea of what you're talking about, because YOU would never watch a movie by such a filmmaker in any event. (I think the French nationality clinches it, well before race enters the picture.) Or was the reasoning too tough? So stick to memes and smears. I'm sure it works fine.

@speckledmike That was an ugly smear, you know. But that sort of thing seems to be tolerated all the time. It's easier to remove the posts of those who stand up to bullies. Just saw an old Audrey Hepburn film called "The Children's Hour," based on the play by Lillian Hellman. Perfect timing.

@speckledmike PROVE SOMEONE SAID PRECISELY THAT. Sounds like something you read into something someone said. But more important, how do you suggest the sexualization of children be stopped? Exactly how do you communicate the message effectively? Did you know, for example, that beauty pageants for toddlers, complete with swimsuit competitions, exist? Did you know dance competitions for preteens that imitate adult erotic dancers exist? Do you have proposals for doing something about it? Do you think you can do something about it without showing what it consists in? You cannot legally ban a movie if the distributor sues under the First Amendment to lift the ban, without showing the whole movie to a jury. This is apart from whether such competitions "normalize pedophilia." You say so, without any evidence. But they are certainly not good for kids, even if they lead to nothing worse. I don't need persuading. I think anyone who endorses first person shooter video games for kids under 18 is endorsing something that harms brain development and normalizes homicide, but I don't expect to convince anyone, sadly. Applying a slander term to them never occurred to me. Quick and dirty, huh?
