@kylehunt26 Assault weapons is a journalistic phrase, to describe a larger firearm like the AR-15 that has been used in warfare, mainly guerrilla, rather than hunting. The term has no place in law.

@kylehunt26 Very new numbers. Wasn't true before the pandemic, if I recall correctly. Np.

What you get is fewer dead people? Maybe something like that.

@kylehunt26 But where do you see infringement? We found out during the Kyle Rittenhouse trial (and I was opposed to trying him as a adult, if at all) that Wisconsin had failed to draft a viable law to prevent minors from carrying AR-15s. In principle, someone who is subject to curfew laws because they are a minor, and cannot enter into most contracts because they are a minor, and cannot buy cigarettes because they are a minor, can, however openly carry an AR-15 on a street during urban unrest. Just tell me what restrictions you think you are subjected to.

@kylehunt26 Well, my best friend is a member of a gun club and practices marksmanship as a sport, and she strongly supports written and performance tests for licensing, similar to autos, motorcycles, trucks. She does not live in Texas but has extended family there, so she and her late husband took the Texas CC exam, which was tough at the time. She said it was what everyone should pass to take a gun off their own property. People who don't train can get in big trouble in an emergency, and anyway, she takes pride in knowing how to shoot straight. She thought the Texas test was a minimum competency everyone should demonstrate. Why would anyone want to sawed off a shotgun?

@kylehunt26 More people die of gunshots. Check the new numbers.

@kylehunt26 Buying a car is not expressly enshrined in the Constitution, but the contract clause and our right to travel freely protect the right to own and operate a motor vehicle. Neither of those provisions say anything about militias. The "militia" language isn't restrictive, we know that, but it's not meaningless. It obviously implies some level competence. It obviously implies no guns for eighth graders.
