Oh my goodness, how dark, LOL. I think you're right.

Ian G What they'll actually lose? The overwhelming terror that their job will go away, for one reason or another, at just the wrong moment. Gosh you're funny.

@hrs2044 Because no one interacts with friends and family who are over 65. We shun those oldsters and put them out to die. We have no idea how their health care works. We also have no democratic leverage over universal programs. We have far more control over our fate when we contract with mega corporations.

@Evenst3vn THIS

Wait. A Kia is a better car than a Lincoln?
2
@hrs2044 The incentive is that M4A is life-long, no matter what may happen. Health care is supposed to be stable. It's not like, "last time I bought a used Taurus, this time I can afford a BMW." Did you foresee a pandemic this year?

You are not the craziest person on this thread.

@hrs2044 Did you actually not know that a person who has comprehensive insurance at age 65 can usually keep it until they leave that job, and will have a window to sign up for Medicare at that time, after age 65, provided there is no gap in coverage? I don't know that that would work if Medicare were universal, but it is instructive. The program is more flexible than you make it out to be. Well. If every other developed country can do this, but the US can't, I admit that would come as no surprise. That's pretty much the story of America.

@hrs2044 Reasoning never works. Fortunately, no reasoning required. When they lose their insurance for one reason (ha) or another, or their plan keeps changing every other year and denying care they need, or the benefits are tweaked but the cost and deductible soars, then they'll know. For example, my plan was fine, but my deductible went from $350 to $7000 in one year. Don't believe it, have it your way.

@hrs2044 But I agree, America is where optimism goes to die.
1
@moon_wizard1250 Not only that, but with how younger people have had to struggle, put together gigs, and be nimble, why should they EVER be tied to a job, for healthcare? Why should it be SO hard for them to start their own company, and so risky? Every young person I know wants the chance to start their own business. They know it's hard. They aren't fools. They just want the chance.

@hrs2044 As if the DNC listens to the people. Biden needed a TRUMP to win. Nice work.
1
@hrs2044 Neoliberal Democrats chose not only a non-M4A candidate, but one who has a two-generations long record of supporting war very strongly. Did America just vote for more war?
1
@hrs2044 Not a rhetorical question. Americans may not care if their neighbor goes bankrupt due to hospital bills, but they seem to enjoy dropping bombs. So, is that what they voted for? Do tell.
1
@hrs2044 Actually, I don't. What I do think is that by voting for Biden, in the primaries or the general, no one ratified his prior stance on war and supporting intervention all over the world.
1
@hrs2044 You just said in another post that liberal Democrats voted for a non-M4A candidate, and that their vote shows there was not massive support for M4A. How do you figure? Did most voters know what Biden's position on Medicare was? Or did they just believe he was a nice guy who could beat Trump?
1
Is it or is it not true that severe, prolonged illness can cause a person to LOSE their job? (ADA, FMLA, etc., protect people who can work from discrimination.) What happens to your health insurance then?
1
@hrs2044 That doesn't prove people knew Nice Guy Joe was against it. Maybe they thought Joe was more likely to bring about all of these lovely DEMOCRATIC policies. You're not doing too well with this.
1
@hrs2044 Well, at this point it's evident you have some special interest here, or there is some special pleading involved. Your claim that a vote for Biden is comparable to a referendum against M4A in an election where "who can beat Trump?" was the central issue, eclipsing all others . . .
1
@hrs2044 So the vote was against "socialist Bernie." The vote was NOT against Medicare for All, which isn't socialist at all. It's a non-means-tested program we already have, expanded to all ages, which would free up more people from deadening jobs, allowing them to start their own businesses, and work for small businesses that can't afford massive benefits. It would be good for entrepreneurs. Glad you see that.
