  3. ​ @urbansetter1 Not reading actual books is a big mistake. It does sharpen the mind in ways that other media does not. It's even beneficial cognitively. YOU provide the "motion," not some narrator, etc.

That's why other countries teach their students calculus, and we say, "there, there, dear, you don't have to be a Math Person." The guy you know? No, he wasn't just born that way. And where did I mention "intelligence?" Why did you bring it up?

  6. @urbansetter1  Great thinkers may indeed watch CNN. Why? Because that is how you find out for yourself what CNN is saying. There is no other way. You cannot rely on others to tell you and consider yourself a great thinker, or even a halfway decent one -- not these days. For a contemporary example, consider this: how can you determine whether CNN has been defaming RFK Jr? You watch CNN, and then you compare what CNN reports with a video that shows what he actually said. My opinion is that they have misrepresented him and defamed him. That's how I formed my opinion: by watching carefully.

  9. @spencerantoniomarlen-starr3069  What do you consider "self-made?" Would you count Bill Gates in that group? Would you look into how they got their financing, and at what point in their trajectory they did? Because having investment banks decide to tip the balance in your favor can be viewed as being "self-made" -- or not. And for those who were the founders of major publicly-traded corporations, who sits on their boards of directors? Who comprises their C-suite? How did they get there? Forbes, etc., are not news magazines. They are purveyors of high-level advertising aimed at shaping one's world view. Dig deeper.

  13. @urbansetter1  I did not say any of those things. I was talking about reading. If YOU are a critical thinker, then go back and look. I don't care if other people conflate any or all of these points, I don't care if you've heard them conflated in the past, I don't care if they have been conflated so frequently that it has become difficult to see one without thinking you've seen the others. I did not do that, and I do not agree with those who do, AND I made that clear. Go back and read it.
