  2.  @so-dan-bought-some-land  I had to check this, it's mind boggling. He was 25 when he committed this homicide. How? How could he qualify for retirement?? Had he been shot, it would have been a problem in some departments to collect a retirement of that size, because of his age. The $8 million settlement is poor; the lawyers' fees come out of that. The deceased had a projected work-life of 40 years, then Social Security. On that basis alone you need to project at least $50k per year for 40 years and adjust for inflation. Where is the compensation for the emotional pain of knowing how he died, begging for his life, and the loss of a husband and father of two young girls?
