I'm not surprised that we care more and more about who your parents are, rather than who you, an individual, are -- whether it be for citizenship, a career, or admission to Harvard.

How does the legal status of the parents' presence in the United States have any bearing on the child's commitment to our country? It doesn't. It's as arbitrary and archaic as any other rule, and not dictated by the text of the Fourteenth Amendment.
