Social Security is not welfare. It is what 90% of people depend on in old age to live. Look at the figures for truly self-funded retirement and health care. The ability to do that is rare.

Take a look at how long those have been around, and how few people can self-fund retirement. No more than 10% can do so, and literally need Social Security. (How did that happen? How indeed.)

@mathurex211 The original IRA has been in existence for nearly five decades, and the Roth for more than two. Show me the millionaires who can self-fund retirement and medical care. Or don't you know how much money you would need to self-fund, or what the risk would be when individualized and dependent on a single stream of income? A retirement plan is supposed to work for the vast majority. That's the standard. Or do you want elderly in tent cities next?

@mathurex211 Your edit did not improve your discourse. It has nothing to do with autonomy and very much to do with risk. Do individuals have the ability to manage risks of things like the 2008 financial meltdown, or the pandemic? They must be multi-millionaires to do so. These are facts, not feelings about "autonomy" and whatnot. Retirement has got to work for everyone who reaches an age when they cannot work effectively, if at all. Self-funding does not work for anywhere near everyone; at most 10% are able to do it without risking a catastrophe at some point. You must not understand the marginal value of a dollar. The greater the marginal value, the greater the risk.

@alishavogel7926 Wrong. This was true before the 1990s, roughly. Not in this century. You must not understand how modern trading is done currently, to be using old concepts and categories in that way. If you want to call them semi-liquid, in comparison to cash and cash-equivalents, then I agree.

And my point is that the "time" has been reduced to seconds, if not milliseconds. I wasn't "yelling" about anything, and I know "the rich" will never pay their "fair share" by any definition; they own the political system. Moreover, if your posts are making money for you, by all means continue. I would understand that. (Suggestion -- Review your post sentence by sentence, identify the vague parts.)
