The problem is that you're describing an extremely serious Title VII violation. But Title VII is really hard for plaintiffs to use, and was time-barred in any event. So they tried to turn it into a crime.

@willman9567 Wrong, LOL. Where did you get that? Actors aren't objectively under the control of producers? It's easy to get away with discrimination, but it's not that easy. At any rate, as soon as Weinstein attempted to destroy the career of anyone who turned him down, any pretense of an arms' length relationship between the two, with real choices for the "independent" contractor, was gone.
