  4. @liuj88  In one segment, when they were discussing the civil rights case brought by the "Central Park Five," Amber cited completely discredited evidence, and it was evident that no one on the panel had read court documents that were easy to find -- I certainly had no trouble. In New York state at that time, to maintain a civil rights case on that basis required not just dismissal of charges but exoneration, which meant actual evidence of innocence. (Only recently has that requirement been very slightly relaxed -- by the current, conservative Supreme Court, opinion by Kavanaugh, of all people.) This media is like any other: whenever I know about something independently, I find gaps in their reporting. In a more astute age, we called it talking heads.

  7. We need to know what caused THIS crash. It may or may not have involved DEI (or nepotism); it may or may not have been vaccine mandates and demoralization. Let the chips fall where they may. Why prejudge? To what end? How is that a meritorious approach to the issue?

  8.  @utah_koidragon7117  Why would DEI be a priori to blame OR blameless? A lot of things have deteriorated over the last few decades. A solid education has gone from being an aspiration for everyone to a niche. Cheating scandals at the top universities have proliferated, regardless of "identity." Massive bonuses for mediocre performance are common. What has remained untouched? What quick fix do you imagine is possible? Even Vivek had a point about studious kids being looked down on, although he stated it badly. (But right there is part of the problem: why couldn't he make a solid point without alienating people and talking about identities, as if only Asian immigrants are studious??) Wow, just wow.

  9. @utah_koidragon7117  Besides, Niall was honest. Amber doesn't know why minority test scores on air traffic controller tests are overall higher, either. She assumes someone put their thumb on the scale. Could it be self-selection, so that only the best even try? Could it be that a small group is likely to have skewed results, regardless? Could it be that people with solid military careers score higher, and that means relatively more minorities will? (And is that a flaw in the test, or a good thing? How did David Goggins become David Goggins?)

I don't claim to know what I don't know -- but you do. On what basis? Love for your own biases? I don't think DEI has lowered any standards, OR raised them. I think it helped to insure that mediocre people from every pressure group could get jobs, and that lots of other things have had even more of an influence in that direction, nepotism being first on the list because it is the single most powerful force designed to override merit and mete out jobs to the "right" people. Of course qualified Americans have been displaced from jobs they were performing very well by cheap H-1B visa holders. Everyone must know that. Thank the tech billionaires for that. They were all arrayed right behind Trump's immediate family at the inauguration.

  19. @liuj88  She was wrong, but no one else had bothered to look up the case, either. I found it in seconds, and a couple of paragraphs were enough to dispel the error. As for the recent Supreme Court case, I agree that's specialized knowledge. It was a fluke that I knew about it.
