Which he wouldn't have had to engage in if he hadn't gone there with an AR-15 in the first place. He was a minor. I wouldn't have charged him as an adult, not on these facts. Classic case of someone needing some court supervision to age 21.

Oh come on. Who would want to be called that? Death threats come next.

@utah_koidragon7117 No she didn't. She said this corporate overreach has opposite its apparent intended effect. I wonder about that view, but that was what she said, and Robbie agreed for some reason. Classic libertarian stance from him: private companies do have a right to do whatever they want, the simultaneity is suspect (ya think?), and the Invisible Hand will even things out by making the outcast group more popular. Bri's featuring of Glenn Greenwald's tweet kinda undermines your view.

@utah_koidragon7117 I agree that clarity on an issue like this should be expected -- as you said in the last paragraph. The other commentary is a wry aside that took over the main part of the story. "They should not do this because it is wrong, and . . . it usually doesn't work anyway. It backfires" I can't argue with that. I just don't see her as nefarious as you seemed to.

A minor who shouldn't have been there in the first place deserves sympathy for the mess he got himself in, yeah. He became a symbol, whereas anyone who took the time to learn anything about him and his family would have realized that he wasn't a bad kid. Nor was he some kind of hero. He wasn't a symbol, he was a symptom.

@waynemorgan6153 The adults he was with earlier that day didn't even stay with him. And no, I do not believe in informally deputizing anyone. We have national guard for that reason. No one else killed anyone that night -- not that I suggest that it was not self-defense. Self-defense is judged in the immediate circumstances, and at that time, he was attempting to disengage. Romanticizing self-appointed law enforcement is bonkers. Kyle's life may be ruined now, and he was not a bad kid. I also agree that others were primarily responsible for what happened -- obviously.

@infopackrat "Felt compelled?" He was an Internet-fed kid with delusions of grandeur. This isn't obvious to you? And he's not a bad kid. He was used, and is still being used. Tell me you'd support your MINOR in this activity, especially if your family has always struggled to put food on the table. He has to live with this the rest of his life. He didn't become independently wealthy. But he is in a position where he will have to dance to the tune of whoever pays him, possibly for the rest of his life. Where did judgment go?

One wonders why Ghislaine is in prison, huh? If only she had been a fugitive a little longer . . . /s
