Look, in 1970, a kid could get a minimum wage job and save up enough money over the summer to pay for a year of state college. And three roommates could get minimum wage jobs and rent an apartment ANYWHERE --- San Fran, Manhattan . . . Those were different people. Who created the world where that became impossible? Robby thinks that government is subsidizing college??

@travisbaggett2813 No it doesn't. It guarantees non-dischargeable loans. Tuition was low when state taxes covered almost all of in-state tuition costs, and a hands-off federal policy didn't fuel the proliferation of administrators. That was why a minimum wage job covered it, and part-time work-study and scholarships covered most of the rest.

@travisbaggett2813 "Grants to universities" includes things like NIH grants, with Johns Hopkins getting the most. Does that have any bearing on tuition either way? No, lol. But it sure does train scientists not to contradict Fauci or Collins . . . EDIT: University of California System got the most last year from NIH: over $2.7 billion. (Did Cato mention that, or does it just encourage you to cut off your nose to spite your face?)
