I have a very old Samuelson economics textbook, and it had a realistic take on "guns vs. butter;" the fact is, no society either coerced into an arms race or choosing to engage, or some combination of the two, can ever take care of its people. Somehow we have lost sight of that basic fact. "Somehow." And then people are shocked (not "shocked, shocked") to find that Big Tech is colluding with the MIC, when they promised us Things Would Be Different This Time. It's where capital goes to be wasted. (Things are different; they're worse.)
