Marriage equity is a basic anti-statism law; the state has no right to discriminate among people seeking to marry. NO church can EVER be required to marry anyone. First Amendment, straight up.

@kimanimzalendo367 Gasp, REALLY??? I was referring to Republicans here, who oppose marriage equity. Churches have a right not to recognize any marriage they do not want to recognize, including between divorced people. Their business, not the state's. And no right to impose their views on the rest of us by law.

@Kimani Mzalendo Of course. And a lot of people want Julian Assange dead. They may get their way. You might even get a lynch mob together for Amber Heard. Supposing it had the support of 90% of the electorate. Should we consider their "views?" The Bill of Rights is not a utilitarian-inspired document. Its logic is more akin to Kantian ethics. Some things should not be done, no matter who would like it.

@Kimani Mzalendo None of the major DNC politicians came out for marriage equity until it was safe. They all proposed domestic partnership laws, at best. Clintons, Obama, Biden, all.
