The human embryo and fetus are unique stages of development. Human embryos are created and destroyed in modern fertility treatments all the time.

Olayemi agreed.

@RAJOHN-ke7mc Me, too. I thought the mandates were softening up the people for exactly this.

It was for 50 years. Constitutional rights are something that cannot be taken away from you, by ANYONE in the government, state or federal, without amending the Constitution. You have the right to decline to exercise them. You have the right to try to persuade others not to exercise them. You have a right to advocate for your view, but not to criminalize those who disagree with it. Well, now the state gets to run your life in one more way, and "state" usually means the lobby with the most 💰.

@jaybrown8807 No one ruled abortion to be unconstitutional. The right to abortion was declared no longer constitutionally protected. That means states can protect it if they so decide. Or ban it outright. That's why Biden is talking about codifying a federal right, and Pence is talking about codifying a federal ban. Maybe you should think this through?

@jaybrown8807 Oh I see. You're Canadian. Nope, not how US constitutional law works.

I don't believe 60% are "pro-choice" so much as anti-government intervention. Many people who would never get an abortion do NOT want it criminalized, and do not want roving pregnancy police acting for the state. I think vaccine mandates showed people what that form of authoritarianism can mean.

Constitutional rights are something that cannot be taken away from you, by ANYONE in the government, including the states, without amending the Constitution. You have the right to decline to exercise them. You have the right to try to persuade others not to exercise them. The right to use birth control, including forms of birth control that may prevent a zygote from being implanted, falls under that very same analysis. A lot of religions oppose artificial birth control. Some even frown on rhythm. They have a right to advocate for their view, but not to criminalize those who disagree. Well, now the state gets to run our lives in one more way, and "state" means the richer lobby.
