  2.  @JustinFREAKIN  The Lancet article is dated April 2, 2022. It states categorically that Omicron produces overall milder illness in unvaccinated persons than Delta did. One possible reason is that the population may be building up a degree of immunity due to prior exposure.

The reason that people panicked was because a handful of severe cases and deaths that seemed to have absolutely no risk factors were so widely publicized, creating the impression that they were common and anyone could die. They really pushed the fear. "You could be next!!" What Kim said in her radar about a friend with a preschooler at home who still cowers at home was heartbreaking.

  12.  @norman_5623  Certainly COVID causes death directly, by causing the immune system malfunction known as cytokine storm, and by causing the lining of blood vessels to become inflamed. What you are describing is more often found in influenza, especially certain varieties of Type A.
