What do you think a job that is likely to cripple you before age 60 and has zero pension should pay? If you have to retire 10-15 years before everyone who has a non-manufacturing job, you better have enough money to save up 10-15 years in basic living expenses while you're working. I never had to plan for that. Start a union, get a raise, too.

@snoopster000 The cost of benefits is already taken into consideration before record profits are calculated. (The individual employee may never realize the benefit, but the insurance industry will get the money for sure.) In that respect, the demand for higher wages isn't so different from a household budget: $3700 rent is absurd if you make $65k, and reasonable if you make $165k and your apartment puts you within walking distance to your office. The UAW is asking for a reasonable raise. The Fox News talking head is just trying to make it sound unreasonable, and stoke envy with an "eye popping" number, nevermind that a CEO making close to $30 million is getting well over $3,300 per hour, 24/7/365, NOT counting benefits. What employee earns that?
