Actually, that is made somewhat unlikely by the fact that the complaint is verified. That means that there could be criminal liability if any of the allegations are deliberate falsehoods.

The complaint is verified. That means that there could be criminal liability if any of the allegations are deliberate falsehoods. 1. Nothing has been proved yet, true. 2. The filing of the verified complaint is a fact and is newsworthy. It happened, and it makes these allegations.

@stonerubber Perfect.

@derekconlin1180 So you know how to find a pdf of the complaint online, and to take a quick look at Black's Law Dictionary, if not the local court rules and state statutes, correct? (That would be a lot of work, and not necessary unless it really intrigues you.)

@AnaLucia-wy2ii Okay it isn't. You know. It could cost some real money in fines, etc. Fines are a possible criminal penalty, duh.

Sure. A verified complaint is more likely to contain accurate factual allegations. There could be criminal liability if any of the allegations are deliberate falsehoods. The plaintiff can't just wave their hands and say, well, I thought this happened, when it's obvious that either it did or did not, and there is no plausible way to be mistaken. Of course nothing is proved yet. (Did you look it up? That's the first thing I did.)

@derekconlin1180 I used to work as a lawyer in the federal court system.

@RaquelSantos-hj1mq Find the complaint and read it. It states "VERIFIED" right up on top.

@RaquelSantos-hj1mq The short answer is that a verified complaint, in most places including New York state, has the legal force comparable to a sworn affidavit for most purposes. In some states, it also means the defendant is required to respond with a verified answer. (Don't know NY law on that point.) Ten seconds on a search engine -- don't have the attention span?

The complaint is verified. That means that there could be criminal liability if any of the allegations are deliberate falsehoods. OTOH, nothing is proved yet. But it is not likely to be nothing but another hit job.

What puzzles me is why so many people are out of control. I don't get it.
